Ahmad Shuja Jamal

Shuja is a policy researcher and former senior Afghan civil servant. He is the author, with Professor William Maley, of The Decline and Fall of Republican Afghanistan (Oxford University Press, 2023). Shuja served as the director-general for international relations and regional cooperation at the Afghan National Security Council, where he helped manage Afghanistan’s security partnerships. He also served as director for peace and civilian protection and handled Afghanistan’s policy portfolio on international sanctions, including those of the UN Security Council and the US against Taliban, Al-Qaeda, and ISIS. Prior to his civil service work, he was a researcher for Human Rights Watch and served as director for development at the American University of Afghanistan, helping to reopen the university after the devastating terrorist attack on campus in August 2016. Shuja currently serves as the head of policy, advocacy and communications at the Jesuit Refugee Service Australia. He comes to this role after serving as a special advisor to the CEO of the Refugee Council of Australia.
 
He is a Fulbright recipient and has a master’s in public policy from Georgetown University.

Stephanie Hardy, ‘16, Host and Creator of The Hardy Wrestling Podcast; Host and Writer for Women’s Wrestling Talk and Color Commentator
 
Stephanie Hardy, a native of Magic City, Birmingham, Alabama, enjoys conversation, television, and music. However, when she is not engaged in these activities, she is devoted to wrestling. Since the age of four, when her father first introduced her to wrestling, Stephanie has been a big fan. She is now the host and creator of The Hardy Wrestling Podcast, a show dedicated to expressing thoughts and feelings about the world of professional wrestling in a relaxed and positive environment and highlighting the stories of the people who are most passionate about wrestling. She is also a commentator for The BellaDonna Division, which is a Gadsden, Alabama-based wrestling promotion for only women. She’s also been featured on Battle Club Pro of New York and the first all Black woman wrestling show Black Girl Magik! She hopes to encourage women to speak truth to power with their voices.

Martha Roberto

Martha Roberto is the owner and operator of Wren Bird Wares, a small-batch pottery business she runs out of her home in Canton, NC. Martha grew up in North Carolina, graduated from her local high school in 2007, and served one year in the National Civilian Community Corps. She then attended Berea College, graduating with a bachelor’s in English. After much traveling and working miscellaneous jobs, she returned home and pursued her long-time dream of being a full-time, working artist.

Jonathan Johnson Interview

Jonathan Johnson (he/him) is from Birmingham, AL. He is a proud alumnus of Berea College where he received his bachelor's degree in 2010. After college, Jonathan attended the Savannah College of Art & Design, where he received a Master of Fine Arts (2012). Jonathan is a writer, actor, and director dedicated to creating work that is socially conscious and sparks conversation. Jonathan is a firm believer that theatre has a transformative and healing power! Jonathan has produced and toured shows throughout the southeast region and worked as the Studio Education Coordinator for a local non-profit in the Atlanta area. He served in that position for 4 years. Jonathan is so thrilled to be apart of this conversation!

Sean Ware Interview

We are excited to interview Sean Ware this week!
 
Sean Ware lives and works as an artist and educator in Portland, Maine.
Originally from Lexington, Kentucky, he graduated from Berea College with a major in
Art and a minor in Art History before earning his MFA in Painting from the University of
New Hampshire. As an educator, he has taught art in higher education across the
country, including Ringling College of Art & Design’s Illustration program and a visiting
position at Berea College. Whether in the studio or on location outdoors, Sean’s
landscape paintings look at the everyday natural world and search for novelty in

We are excited to interview Kat Moses this week!
 
Kat Moses works as the administrative assistant at the bell hooks center and in the Women's, Gender, & Sexuality Studies Department at Berea College. She is a 2012 graduate of the WGS program and obtained a Master's in Public Administration from Murray State University in 2020. Kat currently resides in Somerset with her wife and brood of furbabies where she serves as President of the board of directors for PFLAG Somerset as well as Watershed Arts Alliance and as the lead organizer of Chill Out & Proud Somerset, the community's annual pride event.
